Now taking applications for the FRED FRIEDMAN BOOK SCHOLARSHIP

Fred Friedman was one of the earliest supporters of Bama Hillel and was particularly generous in supporting the Capital Campaign to build a new building and establishing our Intern program. He was an exceptionally kind individual who believed in everyone’s potential. In his words, he tells us….

“I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful.”

In his memory, contributions from the Hillel Board of Trustees established a fund to provide a $250.00 book scholarship award each fall to purchase class materials at the Alabama Supe Store for two students. One scholarship recipient will be selected from the pool of applicants who actively participate in Bama Hillel events. The second scholarship will be awarded from the pool of applicants who are either on the Bama Hillel student board or Bama Hillel interns.
