On Sunday, March 4, Hillel hosted our first ever “Queen Esther’s Spa Day”. The students enjoyed middle eastern snacks, free massages, manicures and pedicures, henna tattoos, and makeup consultations in our festively decorated building. We also had a tarot-card reader and belly dancing teacher who led a class and performed a demonstration for the entire group. Twenty-five students participated in the program, which was for women only and celebrated the heroine of the Purim story. The program also had a social action component. We spoke briefly about domestic violence and how it relates to Esther and Vashti in the story of Purim. A staff member from Turning Point — a domestic violence shelter and organization which supports women — also spoke to our students about the work that their organization does. Queen Esther’s Spa Day was fun and relaxing – and one of the students’ favorite events of the year!
